W. Wesley Pue

In Memoriam: 1954 - 2019

Dr. Wesley Pue taught Jurisprudence, Comparative and Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Legal Theory, Public Law, and Canadian Legal History.

 

His research interests included the histories of legal professions, comparative legal history, law and colonialism, and issues related to constitutionalism, security, and policing.

 

Educated in England and Canada, he taught at Osgoode Hall Law School, Oklahoma City University, Carleton University and University of Manitoba before joining the law school at UBC as Nathan T. Nemetz Professor of Legal History in 1993. At UBC he had served as Director for the Graduate Programme in Law, Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research (July 2003 - January 2007), acting Director of the Individual Interdisciplinary Studies Graduate Program, Vice-Provost (Vancouver Campus), and Provost (Okanagan Campus).

 

Called to the Bars of the Northwest Territories and Alberta and an honorary member of the Honourable Society of Inner Temple, Professor Pue had held faculty positions or visiting professorships in Canada, the USA, England, and Australia and served as President of the Canadian Law and Society Association.  He was Series Editor for Canada's Law and Society Book Series, published by the University of British Columbia Press.
