Artificial Intelligence & Criminal Justice: A Primer

Research output: Other report

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly disrupting and transforming our society, bringing with it tremendous benefits but also significant risks. Debates about AI aren’t just for computer scientists and the tech sector.

This primer is a high-level overview of how AI is already impacting people in the criminal justice system, including with deepfakes, predictive policing, facial recognition, risk assessment algorithms, social media monitoring, AI in legal practice, and beyond. We also introduce critical and Indigenous perspectives, AI governance, and issues concerning the future of AI.

Technology without justice is tyranny. True progress is not measured by innovation alone, but by the justice it delivers to the least among us.
