Abstract

Efrat Arbel was interviewed and featured in this documentary

Amir, Amin, Ali and Negar would sacrifice everything by leaving their families and native Iran in an attempt to escape their oppressors. Each sought asylum, putting their lives in the hands of unscrupulous smugglers, who sent them from the coast of Indonesia in rickety boats unsuitable for the forceful sea. They hoped their unstable vessels wouldn't capsize before reaching the shores of Australia who would interdict their crafts and detain them on two faraway Islands. Amir, Amin and Ali would be sent to Manus Island, and Negar was sent to Nauru. While there, they would be subjected to cruel and abusive punishment and after years of confinement, via social media, they would gain the world's attention shedding a light on the human rights abuses that were taking place on the Islands.
