Abstract

This chapter describes the "Ha'avara", a sophisticated quasi-trust mechanism created and operated from 1933-1941 in order to extract Jews and their property from Nazi Germany, bypassing both German exchange controls and British immigration restrictions. "Ha'avara" saved at least 50,000 lives.
