Abstract
The paper develops the philosophical foundations of the right to security, as found in the work of Hobbes, Locke, Blackstone, Shue, Fredman, Powell and Ramsay. It raises concerns about certain proposed conceptions of the right, as well as the conceptions of security which underline such conceptions of the right.
